Gov. Arnold is the Kommandant Klink of Kalifornia, turning the whole state into Stalag 13. After four years of misgovernance, he still hasn’t balanced a budget. The budget is now $14 billion in the red. As I may have been the first to predict a month ago, it’s inevitable that he’ll come out for tax increases that would hurt the state economy even more.
Yet Kalifornia voters still support him:
He enjoys the approval of 60% of registered voters, according to a Times/CNN/Politico poll conducted by Opinion Research Corp.
That just shows that Kalifornia’s government schools have done a worse job than even I suspected. Or maybe they did the “best” job. Maybe the Kalifornia government schools are designed, not to graduate the literate, reflective voters necessary to a democracy, but battallions of Sgt. Schultzes who reflexively support Klink. “Jawohl, Herr Kommandant!”
After all, three times Tom McClintock, who understands this state’s budget mess better than anybody and would have done something about it, narrowly lost statewide elections, twice for controller and once, in 2006, for lieutenant governor.
And in the 2003 recall, McClintock lost to Kommandant Klink, whom I predicted at the time would be a clone of recalled Gov. Gray Davis.
That 60% number shows why my repeated demands to recall Kommandant Klink have gone nowhere.
Kalifornia voters are all clones of Sgt. Schultz: “I know nothing! I see nothing!”
